California:

New legislation will become effective on January 1, 2011 to bring California closer to uniformity with other states’ insurance producer licensing laws. The bill allows for the issuance of separate property broker-agent and casualty broker-agent licenses in addition to continuing to issue the combined property and casualty broker-agent license. To accommodate this change, the previous Fire and Casualty Broker-Agent pre-licensing Educational Objectives (EOs) were divided into separate Property Broker-Agent and Casualty Broker-Agent EOs. The revised EOs are available on the California Department of Insurance’s (CDI) Web site. The revised EOs will take effect on January 1, 2011 and the license examinations will also be updated to reflect these changes.

Connecticut:

Effective immediately, resident licensees of the Connecticut Insurance Department have the ability to apply a new license or renew a Connecticut Resident License via the National Producer Registry (NIPR) at www.nipr.com Questions and concerns can be directed to the Department at 860-297-3845 or by email at cid.licensing@ct.gov.

Wisconsin:

As announced in August, existing life agents on May 1, 2011, who sell any annuities must complete four hours of approved annuity training within six months, by November 1, 2011. Newly licensed life agents on or after May 1, 2011, have to complete the training before they can sell annuities. Recently the Wisconsin Department posted the required content outline that must be addressed by course providers to meet this new requirement…a copy of the outline is available at  http://oci.wi.gov/agentlic/annuitytrn.pdf.

Tennessee:

Pearson VUE, in cooperation with the Tennessee Insurance Department, has announced changes to the insurance pre-licensing education curriculum outlines. The announced revisions will be reflected on licensing examinations offered on and after February 15, 2011. This outline reflects the new National exams that will go into effect for Tennessee on the same date. Individuals preparing for an insurance licensing exam that will be administered on or after the announced implementation date are urged to ensure that their study materials reflect the most recent curriculum revisions. The new Licensing Information Bulletins will be available from Pearson VUE online at www.pearsonvue.com.
