North Carolina:

For the 2010-2011 annual company appointment renewal billing, the North Carolina Department of Insurance will process appointment renewals for Producer (all six major line of authority licenses), Auto Physical Damage, Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care, Limited Representative, Title Insurance and Credit Agent electronically through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). In past years, the Agent Services Division has exempted some companies from the electronic processing requirements. For the 2010-2011 annual comp any appointment renewal billing, electronic processing through NIPR is mandatory for ALL insurance companies and motor clubs with NAIC numbers.

California:

AB 800 will become effective on January 1, 2010. This bill made several changes to the California Insurance Code (CIC) for the purpose of encouraging online filings from insurance producers and to bring California closer to uniformity with other states’ producer licensing laws. Effective January 1, 2010, license applicants must provide the e-mail address to which the applicant wants the commissioner to direct all license-related correspondence. Also effective January 1, 2010: the personal lines broker-agent continuing education requirement will increase from 20 hours to 24 hours during each two-year license term.
