Alabama:

Effective March 1, 2009, there will be a one-time 8 hour LTC training required for those resident producers selling long term care insurance in Alabama.  Once the initial training has been met, producers will also be required to complete 4 hours of training every two years.  This will be completed during their biennial renewal cycle. Newly licensed resident producers will have to satisfy the LTC one-time 8-hour training requirement beginning March 1, 2009, before they can sell LTC insurance; and those producers currently holding a license will have until December 31, 2009 to obtain the one-time 8-hour training.

Alaska:

Pearson VUE, in cooperation with the Alaska Insurance Department, has announced extensive changes to their insurance pre-licensing education curriculum outline. The announced revisions will be reflected on licensing examinations offered on and after February 9, 2009. Individuals preparing for an insurance licensing exam that will be administered on or after the announced implementation date are urged to ensure that their study materials reflect the most recent curriculum revisions. The new Licensing Information Bulletins will be available from Pearson VUE online at www.pearsonvue.com.

Louisiana:

The Department of Insurance has announced that a change to a system of birth-month license renewals will begin with life, accident & health (L,A&H) licenses which are due to expire on April 30, 2010. To implement this change the Department will start the process with all L,A&H licensees whose birth month is May. The renewal process will open for these individuals starting on April 1, 2009 and remain open until May 30, 2009. Once the renewal application has been approved, the license will be renewed through May 30, 2012. Each subsequent month the Department will add the next month to the process (on May 1, 2009 the renewal process will be open to all licensees whose birth month is June and on June 1, 2009 the renewal process will be opened to all whose birth month is July and so forth). Because of the early renewal of some L,A&H licenses, the continuing education requirement has been reduced to 8 hours (from 16 hours) for this renewal cycle only. A similar process will begin on April 1, 2010 for property & casualty licensees. Questions concerning this process should be directed to the Department of Insurance by calling 225-219-5941.
